Why 3D printing changed everything

Today, a 3D printer can print a fully articulated animal in a single piece, with joints that work straight off the print bed. This is called print-in-place — all the joints are printed at the same time, with no assembly. The result is stronger, more precise, and impossible to reproduce with any other manufacturing method.
