Artisan 3D Printing in France: What Makes Our Creations Unique

Artisan 3D Printing in France: What Makes Our Creations Unique

When you buy a 3D-printed object from Jagou Design, you receive something you won't find in a classic gift shop, a department store, or even most online stores. You receive an artisan piece made by hand in France, carefully designed, tested, re-tested, and printed to last.

What exactly is 3D printing?

3D printing (or additive manufacturing) means building an object layer by layer from a digital file. Unlike subtractive manufacturing (where you carve into a block of material), you only add what's needed — no waste.

In practice, here's how it works at Jagou Design:

  1. Designing the 3D model — every animal, every lamp, every object is modeled digitally. This design work often takes dozens of hours.
  2. Setting up the print — every object has its own settings: speed, temperature, infill density, orientation on the build plate.
  3. Printing — the machine lays down the filament layer by layer. For some complex pieces, printing can take several hours.
  4. Finishing and quality control — every piece is inspected, cleaned and tested before shipping.

Eco-friendly PLA: why it matters

The material we use is PLA (polylactic acid) — a plant-based polymer made from corn starch or sugar cane. It's not petroleum plastic.

  • Plant-based — made from renewable resources
  • Industrially compostable — doesn't end up in the oceans
  • BPA-free — no endocrine disruptors
  • Strong and lightweight — perfect for everyday objects

What "artisan" really means

Small-batch production. No assembly line. Every order is prepared individually, which lets us maintain consistent quality.

Human control at every step. The 3D printer is a tool, not a substitute for human craftsmanship. Every piece passes through a real person's hands before shipping.

Adaptability. Want a specific color? Have a custom project? Because we're artisans, we can do it.

Local commitment. Everything happens in France. Shipping's carbon footprint is kept to a minimum, and you support a creative local economy.

Print-in-place: the magic behind our articulated animals

One of the most impressive techniques we use is print-in-place for our articulated Flexi keychains. We print the whole animal in one go, joints included. The machine builds the joints so they move freely as soon as printing ends.

The result? An animal that ripples and bends with an almost organic fluidity — and far stronger than a classic assembly. Add the magnets embedded during printing, and you get something no other manufacturing method can reproduce.

Satellite data in our planet lamps

Every relief on our lamps — Moon, Mars, Earth, Jupiter or Saturn — is based on real topographic data from space agencies. We don't draw the terrain by hand. We convert real scientific data into 3D models, then print them. It's both a technical feat and an editorial choice: we make objects that are true, not just beautiful.

Our custom printing service

Beyond our catalog, Jagou Design offers a custom 3D printing service. Have an STL file, a project to prototype, a part to reproduce or an idea in mind? We can print it for you — for individuals and businesses alike.
